Two Women Sisters in Colombia, Meet After Split 30 years

Two women in Colombia sisters finally meet after being apart for 30 years. Both are separated since childhood after deadly landslides that hit Colombia destroyed their home.

Jaqueline Sanchez (39) and Lorena Santos (33) lead their own lives after the adoption of two different families, after the tragedy that struck their city, Armero, in November 1985 ago. At that time, catastrophic volcanic eruption triggered a landslide that killed 25 thousand people in Colombia.

Both were aged 9 years and 3 years at separate times. They never met and never saw their mother since the tragedy. Until finally Jaqueline find Lorena few months ago, when he saw a video posted on Facebook about the victims of natural disasters.

"I see the video every day and every time I saw him, I said, 'That's my sister, it's my sister'," said Jacquelin in a press conference as reported by AFP on Saturday (02/27/2016).

Both emotional reunion was held after genetic tests proved they are brothers from the same mother. They also became the first missing children who reunited after being apart due to the disaster. This reunion was assisted by Armando Armero Foundation, which handles many disaster victims Armero.

Doctors from the Institute of Genetic Yunis Juan-Yunis Turbay in Bogota applause when he announced the results of a DNA test that proved Jaqueline and Lorena had the same mother.

Although it is still very small, Lorena confessed always knew he was adopted. She underwent genetic testing three years ago after visiting back Armero. Lorena determined to find his mother with the help of Armando Armero Foundation and he was surprised when he met with his brother.

"I'm still trying to understand. It's not easy after 30 years of separation, they tell you that you have a sister," said Lorena.
